Fined $880 For Dumping Garbage On Crown Land

A Schreiber man has been fined $880 for illegally dumping his household garbage on Crown land.

Michael Vucko pleaded guilty to the charge.

The court heard that on May 15, 2009, a Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officer investigated after receiving complaints about garbage dumped in a clearing on Sox Lake Road, just east of Rossport. The officer found a large amount of debris on the Crown land, including stove pipes, a propane barbeque, plastic tarps and sheets, paint cans, oil jugs, used oil filters, trailer fenders, lawn chairs, and bags of household garbage.

Justice of the Peace Richard LeSarge heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Schreiber, on July 13, 2009. Vucko removed the garbage before appearing in court.

The ministry reminds the public that it is illegal to deposit any material on Crown land or land fill sites without authority.
