ENFORCEMENT CHECK SHOWS MOST ANGLERS OBEYING THE RULES

The Ministry of Natural Resources laid 12 charges and issued 20 warnings recently at a fish and game check station in Durham Region.

On June 14, 2009, Aurora District conservation officers, with the help of officers from Bancroft District and the ministry’s canine unit, stopped and inspected 125 vehicles on Highway 35. Officers checked for compliance with the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act and the Ontario Fishery Regulations.

Charges and warnings were issued for:

• Catching and keeping bass during the closed season
• Transporting illegally caught bass
• Catching and keeping too many lake trout
• Packaging and skinning fish so that the species and number could not be readily identified or counted.
