LARGE FINES FOR TWO TIMMINS COMPANIES FOR AGGREGATE VIOLATIONS
Two Timmins companies have been fined a total of $16,000 for violations of the Aggregate Resources Act and the Public Lands Act.
Great White Minerals Ltd. pleaded guilty to violating seven conditions of an aggregate permit site plan, and was fined $7,500. Violations included failing to erect a gate at the permit site entrance and failing to visibly mark the permit boundary and setback lines. The company also pleaded guilty to constructing a water crossing not in accordance with the conditions of a work permit, and was fined an additional $7,500.
Terra Technical Services Ltd., a consulting firm contracted by Great White Minerals Ltd., was fined $1,000 for violating the conditions of the aggregate permit site plan by failing to visibly identify the permit boundary and setback.
Court heard that during the summer of 2006, the Ministry of Natural Resources discovered the violations after investigating a public complaint about activities at an aggregates extraction site in Kimberley Township, in the District of Temiskaming.
Justice of the Peace Alex Spence heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Timmins, on June 11, 2009.
