HUNTSVILLE RESIDENT FINED FOR UNLAWFULLY FILLING SHORE LANDS
A Huntsville man has been fined $300 for unauthorized filling of shore land area under the Public Lands Act.
Edward A. Joiner, pleaded guilty to unlawfully filling shore lands on a property on Fairy Lake, in the District Municipality of Muskoka. In addition to the fine, Joiner restored the filled-in area to comply with the Ministry of Natural Resources' guidelines over the winter when the lake level was at its lowest.
Joiner had pleaded guilty to the offence on July 10, 2008 and was given time to do the restoration work over the winter before a sentence was imposed.
Justice of the Peace M. Frederiksen heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Bracebridge, on June 11, 2009.
The public is reminded to contact the ministry for a work permit prior to undertaking certain works on shore lands. Failure to obtain a work permit can result in a fine and the removal of the fill and restoration of the area.
