LOCAL HUNTER FINED FOR CARELESS HUNTING

A Port Sydney man has been fined $500 and had his hunting licence cancelled for careless hunting.

Gordon W. Pilger, pleaded guilty and was convicted of careless use of a firearm. In addition to the fine, he is prohibited from hunting for one year. He must successfully complete the Ministry of Natural Resources hunter safety education course and pass the examination before applying for a new hunting licence.

Court heard that on November 8, 2008, Pilger was hunting at his residence in Stephenson Ward, in the District Municipality of Muskoka, when he fired several shots at a deer. His shots were fired in the direction of the adjacent property and a municipal road.

Justice of the Peace M. Frederiksen heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Bracebridge, June 11, 2009.
