TOO MANY WALLEYE RESULT IN FINES

Windsor - A Saint Clair Shores, Michigan man was recently fined $670 for possessing 3 extra walleye, transporting illegally caught walleye and having opened liquor in a boat.

On May 17, 2009, conservation officers were conducting routine checks of anglers on the Detroit River in the Windsor area and saw William Cetnarowski, 44, fishing for walleye. Cetnarowski had 3 walleye over his limit and had open liquor in his boat. The fish, trolling line and liquor were seized. The trolling line will be returned when the fines are paid.

In an unrelated matter, a Sterling Heights Michigan man was recently fined $395 for fishing without a licence and possessing 2 extra walleye.

On May 15, 2009, conservation officers were conducting routine checks of anglers on the Detroit River in the Windsor area and observed David Marchione, 47, fishing for walleye without a licence and in possession of 8 illegally caught walleye. The fish and trolling line were seized. The trolling line will be returned when the fines are paid.

The ministry reminds anglers that the province's recreational fishing regulations are in place to protect the sustainability of walleye populations.
