Pre-season Fishing Results in Fine and Licence Suspension
Two Prince Edward County men have each been fined $2681.25 and $630.00 respectively and given a two and one year fishing licence suspension respectively for fishing out of season. In addition, their fishing equipment will be maintained by MNR until the fines are fully paid.
Lawrence Prettie, 52, and Bradley J. Prettie, 18, pleaded guilty to bass fishing during a closed season.
Conservation officers investigated after receiving a complaint that people were fishing for bass in East Lake. The investigation revealed that the men had caught 19 largemouth bass.
Justice of the Peace Chappelle heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Picton, on May 15, 2009.
Open seasons are listed in the 2008-2009 Recreational Fishing Regulations Summary available at licence issuers and ServiceOntario/Government Information Centres and at ontario.ca/fishing. Bass are particularly vulnerable as they prepare to spawn in June.
