HUNTER FINED $4,000 FOR SHOOTING HIS PARTNER
A Cobden area man has been fined $4,000 for careless hunting for shooting his hunting partner in 2005.
David Hendry, 40, must also pay a $1,000 victim surcharge, has had his hunting licence suspended for two years and must complete a hunter safety course before applying for a new licence after the suspension period.
Court heard that Hendry was hunting deer with a group of hunters in Bromley Township near the village of Cobden on November 10, 2005. Hendry and his hunting partner were about 200 metres apart, standing along the same fence line, when a deer jumped the fence between them. Hendry fired two shots, once of which hit his hunting partner in the leg.
The case, which has been before the courts since February of 2006, concluded April 27, 2009. Justice of the Peace Clayton McKechnie heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Pembroke.
