TRESPASSING TO HUNT RESULTS IN FINES

Three Callander-area men have pleaded guilty to trespassing to hunt and fined $500 each.

In November 2008, Shawn Knight, 47, Tracy Parker, 42, and Chris Stewart, 48, shot and retrieved an adult deer off Pinecreek Road in the Callander area without the permission of the landowner.

As a result of a call to the MNR TIPS line, conservation officers investigated a complaint of three individuals trespassing on posted private property in a rural residential area to harvest a deer.

Knight's firearm was seized during the investigation and will be returned to him once he pays his fine. The deer was forfeited to the Crown and was donated to the Mattawa and Area Food Bank.

Justice of the Peace James Bubba heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on April 16, 2009.
