HUNTING COW MOOSE WITHOUT A LICENCE RESULTS IN FINE AND HUNTING SUSPENSION
April 17, 2009
A Thomasburg, Ontario, man has been fined and had his hunting licence suspended after illegally shooting an adult moose.
Bradley A. Hendrick, 28, was fined $1,500 under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act for shooting a cow moose without a moose licence. He is also prohibited from hunting moose in Ontario for one year. Hendrick’s firearm was confiscated and will be returned once his fine is paid.
Court heard that on October 15, 2008, conservation officers conducted a road check in Vermillion Bay. Officers checked the back of Hendrick’s truck and found two moose hooves along with part of a lower moose jaw. Hendrick claimed they belonged to a calf moose he had harvested near Perrault Falls the day before, but upon investigation, officers determined they were from a 2½-year-old cow moose.
Justice of the Peace Robert McNally head the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Kenora, on April 2, 2009.
