FINE AND BAN FOR CARELESS MOOSE HUNTING

March 23, 2009

A Val Gagne man has been fined $1,000 and banned from hunting for a year for shooting directly at a residence.

Gilles Giguere, 44, pleaded guilty to discharging a firearm without due care and attention for property. He must successfully complete the hunter safety course before reinstatement of his hunting licensing privileges.

Court heard that on November 6, 2008, conservation officers responded to an Ontario Provincial Police officer's request for assistance with an investigation involving a man allegedly shooting at a moose off Grindstone Road in Bond Township. An investigation determined that Giguere had fired four high-powered rifle rounds at a calf moose standing in the driveway directly in front of a residence.

Justice of the Peace Marielle Quinn heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Timmins, on March 19, 2009.
